Everyone knows that round trip flights are cheaper than two one-way flights. Since the places we wanted to visit on this trip were more of a zig-zag than circular, we decided to fly from Dubrovnik back to Prague for the return trip home (train would have taken more than 24 hours…no way!).
Getting that situated was a mess. Our original flight was cancelled about three weeks before we left the States. That was frustrating, but turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we actually had booked the flight for the wrong day! Not sure how that happened, but at least the big man upstairs was watching out for us! So, after several phone calls to Expedia and way too much time on hold, we got the refund and booked a different flight. Whew!
So, today we flew from Dubrovnik to Rome to Prague. That’s about the equivalent of traveling from Atlanta to Dallas to Washington, D.C. Seems a little weird, but it was by far the best, cheapest option.
We had delays on both flights. Nothing major, but a little frustrating. We learned that dealing with the security standards that you know are easier than dealing with security standards that you don’t know. No problems, it’s just interesting to compare and figure out what’s expected in different countries.
Getting food in Rome was frustrating. Lines didn’t make sense; we thought they took cards but didn’t and only had a small amount of euros. Only one place in the whole terminal to get drinks and they weren’t cold at all. That coupled with the delays, and the early morning (left the hotel about 6:30 am), we were exhausted when we arrived in Prague and VERY thankful that we decided to book the Courtyard right across from the airport!
It is a nice hotel. One if the few times we’ve actually had one king bed with one comforter. But still no top sheet. One plus, we did get both shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom; this is the first time conditioner has been included…it’s the little things that make a girl happy, especially a girl with curly hair 😉
Tomorrow we will return to Atlanta, with about a three-hour layover in Amsterdam. It will be a very long day of travel, but we will be very happy to sleep in our own bed!
How could you not think/say “Home Sweet Home” after four weeks of vacation? As awesome as it is to travel and as much time as you spend at the beginning not wanting to believe that you’ll ever want to return home, the day finally does come and it’s exciting!
The flights today were uneventful – exactly as you generally want them to be. Nothing crazy or exciting to share.
It took about 18 hours from the time we left the hotel to the time we walked in the door of the condo. So, we are exhausted. Local time is 7:20 p.m. Our bodies think it is 1:20 a.m. We are going to try to stay up for at least an hour or two. Maybe watch some TV… we haven’t done that in four weeks!
Then we will sleep. Oh, how we’ve missed the mattress and pillows that we love even more every time we return from a trip. We may still be working on paying them off (loan was 0% interest, 2 years ago), but it has been worth every penny!
Thanks for following our adventures! We’ll probably add another couple of entries in the next day or two of random thoughts or summary stuff, but for now…we’re tired!
